Tim Bourke
Growing up in Westport Co. Mayo, Ireland, Tim spent his early childhood days developing his riding skills at his Grandmother’s riding school, Knappa Beg Stables. Tim joined the Clew Bay Pony Club, achieved his A-rating, and attended Gurteen Agricultural College. During his years at Gurteen, Tim worked and rode young horses for John Craig, who has since played an integral role in Tim’s riding career.
Upon graduation, Tim moved to the States to work for the legendary Bruce Davidson. Over two years Tim learned the inner workings of producing event horses to the top level of the sport and came to love living in America. Tim, accompanied by Marley, returned to Ireland for a year where he rode show jumpers for Jonathon Reape and met Luckaun Quality. Recognizing Tim’s obsession and connection with “the big horse” , the Reapes helped Tim to bring “Obie” back to the States when he returned to become Sharon White’s Assistant Trainer. Tim spent 6 years learning from and working with Sharon before he and Marley decided to start out on their own.
Tim has since established himself as a top rider and sought-after trainer. Tim was named to the Irish High Performance list and in 2015, Tim and Luckaun Quality completed the Rolex Kentucky CCI5* finishing in 18th place. Tim and Obie next headed to England for Burghley CCI5* where they were the highest placed Irish pair. Tim and Obie continued on to finish 11th at Rolex in 2016, won the Bank One Trophy as the highest placed owner-rider, and 16th in 2017. After another Top 20 finish at the Kentucky CCI5* event, Tim and Obie were named to the Irish World Equestrian Games Team as the Traveling Reserve. Tim has since produced and competed several horses successfully through the highest levels of the sport. Tim is known for being an exceptional cross country rider.
